Horizontal elastic design spectral accelerations S_a, The function of the Design Response Spectrum curve is specified in seismic design codes and spectral response acceleration parameters are used to create this function. In the Design Response Spectrum curve, the spectral accelerations corresponding to 1-s period and corner periods are used to determine these parameters.

A standard response spectrum curve defined in seismic codes is defined as follows.

• For periods less than smaller T_corner, the design spectral response acceleration, S, shall be taken as as a linear function.

• For periods greater than or equal to small T_corner value and less than or equal to greater T_corner value the design spectral response acceleration, S, shall be taken as equal to maximum spectral response acceleration.

• For periods greater than or equal to graeter T_corner value the design spectral response acceleration, S, shall be taken as a fuction of T and spectral response acceleration parameters.
