This connection is an intersecting beam-beam connection. It can be applied to one piece main beam and two piece beam connections.

Location of the Continuous Beam Connection Command

You can access it under the Ribbon menu, Connection tab, Experimentals title.

Usage Steps

  • From the Steel menu click on the line Continuous Beam Combination.

  • Click the main beam, then the beam, in the 3D perspective view.

  • The combination will occur with default settings.

Location of the Continuous Beam Connection Settings Dialog

If the draw in fast mode is active, the connection settings will be opened automatically.

If the draw in fast mode is inactive, select the connection and click the right mouse button. Click the Properties line from the right click menu that opens.

Continuous Beam Connection Settings Dialog

Flange Connection Type

In this tab, it is determined whether the top flange connection will be, welded or bolted. Check the relevant option.

Plates Tab

Give the plate thickness and length.

Shear Type Tab

Select options based on the schematic figure given. After the selection process, you can instantly view the changes in the 3D view.

Shear Plate Tab

Give the plate dimensions according to the given schematic figure.

Top Left/Top Right Notch Tab

Select options and enter values according to the given schematic figure.

Welds Tab

The weld properties of the connections given in the schematic representation are set in the Welds tab. Give the size, type, angle values and mark the option whether to weld under construction site conditions.

Welding geometry is determined automatically by the program. These properties can be changed to easily determine the connection properties. Geometry features are in accordance with industry standards and in the form specified in AISC.

Weld electrode

In this section, the strengths of the weld electrodes are defined.

Top Left Flange Bolts Tab

Determine the count of bolts and the distances between bolts according to the schematic representation given.

Bolt properties: Bolt grade, bolt size and hole properties are set in bolt properties.

Top Right Flange Bolts Tab

Determine the count of bolts and the distances between bolts according to the schematic representation given.

Bolt properties: Bolt grade, bolt size and hole properties are set in bolt properties.

Bottom Left Flange Bolts Tab

Determine the count of bolts and the distances between bolts according to the schematic representation given.

Bolt properties: Bolt grade, bolt size and hole properties are set in bolt properties.

Bottom Right Flange Bolts Tab

Determine the count of bolts and the distances between bolts according to the schematic representation given.

Bolt properties: Bolt grade, bolt size and hole properties are set in bolt properties.

Assembly Plate Tab

The geometry of the plate used is given or one of the L profiles in the library can be used as a connection element with the Use Section option. If you check the plate geometry option, enter the plate dimensions according to the schematic representation.
