9.4.2. Beam - Column Joints

9.4.2.1 - In moment transmitting beam-column joints of steel frames with limited ductility level, the following three conditions shall be met together:

(a) The combination shall be capable of providing at least 0.02 radians relative floor translation angle (relative floor translation / floor height). For this, details that have been validated by experimental and / or analytical methods will be used. Various examples of bolted and welded joint details and their application limits that have been proven to be valid are given inĀ  Annex 9B .

(b) In the calculation of the required bending moment strength M uc of the joint , the rules given in 9.3.4.1 (b) apply.

(c) The rules given in 9.3.4.1 (c) apply in determining the V- end shear force to be taken as basis for dimensioning the joint .

9.4.2.2 - In the beam-column joint detail, the required shear strength of the shear zone limited by the column and beam heads (Figure 9.3) will be determined by the beam end moments that will give the most unfavorable result under (YDKT) or (GKT) load combinations.

9.4.2.3 - For moment transfer beam-column joints, the rules given in 9.3.4.3 are valid.

9.4.2.4 - In dimensioning the combination detail, the calculation principles given in Annex 9B shall be used.

9.4.2.5 - Conditions given in 9.3.4.5 shall be complied with in regions with preserved capacities .
