For building structural systems, 3D analysis model is created automatically.

The stiffness and strength of elements which are important to distribution of deformations and forces are included in analysis.

In addition, the model complies with the following:
a. Stiffness properties of concrete elements model with the effects of cracked sections.
b. For steel moment frame systems, the contribution of panel zone deformations to overall story drift shall be included.

Structures that have horizontal structural irregularity Type 1a, 1b, 4, or 5 of Table 12.3-1 are analyzed using a 3D representation. Where a 3D model is used, a minimum of three degrees of freedom consisting of translation in two orthogonal plan directions and rotation about the vertical axis shall be included at each level of the structure. If the diaphragms have not been classified as rigid or flexible in accordance with Section 12.3.1, the model includes representation of the diaphragm’s stiffness characteristics and, when dynamic analysis is performed, sufficient degrees of freedom as are required to account for the participation of the diaphragm in the structure’s dynamic response.
