Hole Sizes and Application

  • Maximum hole sizes for bolts are given in Table 13.8 of the steel code.

  • ideCAD automatically uses these values for static steel combination calculations and drawings.

Minimum Bolt Spacing

  • The distance between the centers of standard circular, large circular and oval holes, s, is not less than 3 times the characteristic bolt diameter d. (s ≥ 3d)

  • This control is done automatically and reported in bolted connections.

Minimum Distance to Element Edge

  • The distance from the standard circular hole diameter center to the edge of the piece, in any direction, cannot exceed the values given in Table 13.9.

  • The distance from the center of the large circular or oval hole to the part edge cannot be less than the distance calculated by adding the value required by the standard circular hole diameter and the applicable C value given in Table 13.10.

  • This control is done automatically and reported in bolted connections.

Maximum Bolt Spacing and Distance to Edge

  • The maximum distance of the center of any bolt to the nearest edge cannot exceed 12 times the thickness of the part it connects and 150 mm.

  • This control is not done automatically in combination design reports. However, in the joints calculated and created in accordance with the plastic design philosophy (for example, single slip plate joints, double and single angle joints, etc.), the edge distance is 2 * d, with the diameter of the bolt d, the distance between the bolts is maximum 8. * d is generated.

Welding Thickness

Effective thickness of partial penetration butt welds

  • It cannot be less than the thickness of the weld that will ensure the safe transfer of the calculated force and the minimum thicknesses given in Table 13.3. The minimum weld thickness is determined on the basis of the thinner joining piece.

  • This check is done automatically and reported.

Corner weld effective thickness

  • The minimum effective thickness of the corner welds cannot be less than the thickness of the weld that will ensure the safe transfer of the calculated force and the minimum thicknesses given in Table 13.4.

  • This check is done automatically and reported.

Note: The points specified in ÇYTHE 2018 13.2.2.2 for the maximum thickness of the corner welds are not automatically controlled.
