Design with Load and Resistance Factor Design (Load and Resistance Factor Design) is based on the principle that the design strength value for all structural elements is equal to or greater than the required strength calculated by the loads and loading combinations mentioned in the regulation. The LRFD uses different load increase coefficients for each load type and different strength reduction coefficients for strength. It provides a uniform security.

Structural Security

As a method, LRFD gives more realistic results due to the sensitivity in both load estimation and determination of safety coefficients and is more economical due to plastic design rules.
