Soft Story Irregularity, ASCE 7-16
How does ideCAD control the soft story irregularities, according to ASCE 7-16, for two earthquake directions?
Vertical 1a and 1b irregularity checks are made automatically, and detailed results are given in the Earthquake Regulation report.
Soft Story Irregularities are checked in the Irregularity Report, and necessary conditions are applied.
SYMBOLS
Ki = Story Stiffness
Vi = The story shear at level i
δi = The deflection at the center of mass of level i
Soft Story Irregularity is defined by dividing stiffness in any i'th story by the stiffness of the upper story for any of the two earthquake directions perpendicular to each other, excluding basements where the coefficient is smaller than 0.7.
Extreme Soft Story Irregularity is defined by dividing stiffness in any i'th story by the stiffness of the upper story for any of the two earthquake directions perpendicular to each other, excluding basements where the coefficient is smaller than 0.6.
